Wilson, John
John Wilson was convicted in May 1983 of conspiracy to rob and received a sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in July 2002.
The main evidence against Mr Wilson at trial had come from a police informant connected to the same robbery.
This informant was subsequently discredited in several Court of Appeal judgements, resulting in several convictions from cases similar to that of Mr Wilson’s being quashed.
In addition, the informant had been handled by police officers who were later shown in the Court of Appeal to have been corrupt.
The CCRC referred the conviction in November 2002.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in October 2003.
