Traynor, Alan

Published:

Alan Traynor was convicted in February 1994 of murder and received a sentence of life imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in July 2005.

During review, the CCRC identified and obtained fresh evidence that gave rise to the argument that an individual other than Mr Traynor might have been regarded as a viable alternative suspect for the murder.

There was therefore a real possibility that the Court of Appeal would, on the basis of a credible body of evidence supporting the contention that another individual had been responsible for the murder, find Mr Traynor’s conviction unsafe.

The CCRC referred the conviction in March 2011.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in March 2012.
