Shoyeju, Samuel

Published:

Samuel Shoyeju pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office at Basildon Crown Court in November 2011. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.

Mr Shoyeju’s application for leave to appeal against his sentence was dismissed in March 2013. He applied to the CCRC for a review of his sentence in June 2013.

Following review, the CCRC decided to refer Mr Shoyeju’s sentence to the Court of Appeal because it considered there was a real possibility that the Court would reduce the sentence.

The referral was made on the basis of new information that the sentencing judge had made a factual error in relation to a separate case on which he relied for his sentence calculations in Mr Shoyeju’s case.

The CCRC referred the sentence in January 2014.

The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence in March 2014.
