Rowe, Ricky

Published:

Ricky Rowe was convicted in August 2008 of driving a motor vehicle without insurance. Mr Rowe received a six months’ disqualification from driving, a £320 fine, a costs order of £70, and a £15 victim surcharge.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in June 2009.

During review, the CCRC obtained new evidence from the Metropolitan Police, the DVLA, witnesses, and an expert forensic document examiner.

The CCRC considered that this new evidence, taken together and viewed in the context of inconsistencies in police evidence, cast considerable doubt on the prosecution’s assertion at trial that Mr Rowe had been the driver of a vehicle which had been stopped by police.

The CCRC referred the conviction in July 2011.

The Crown Court quashed the conviction in November 2011.
