Parsons, Brian
Brian Parsons was convicted in December 1988 of murder and received a sentence of life imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in May 1997.
The murder had taken place in the victim’s bungalow in 1987. The electricity supply to the bungalow had been cut by the intruder(s).
The CCRC referred the conviction in December 1998 on the basis of new evidence that the electricity consumption at the bungalow suggested that the victim had been alive and living their normal routine after the time of death put forward by the prosecution.
This was a time when Mr Parsons could not have committed the murder.
In addition, there had been non-disclosure of evidence to the defence.
The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in October 1999.
