Mulcahy, Richard
Richard Mulcahy was convicted in August 1996 of robbery and received a sentence of six years’ imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in December 1997.
Mr Mulcahy had been convicted after he had been picked out on a police identity parade by the shop assistant of a store which had been robbed.
During review, the CCRC learned that following Mr Mulcahy’s trial, a bin liner at the shop premises had been found to bear a fingerprint matching that of another man whose description closely matched that which given by the shop assistant of the offender.
The CCRC referred the conviction on this basis in November 1999.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in October 2000.
