Ms C
Ms C was convicted in March 1991 of aiding and abetting buggery. Ms C received a sentence of six years’ imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in July 1998.
During investigation, one complainant retracted the allegations they had made against Ms C and alleged that social workers had pressured them into making the allegations.
The CCRC obtained supporting evidence for this claim from examination of social services files.
The CCRC concluded that there was a real possibility the Court of Appeal would find that this new evidence was of sufficient weight, cogency and relevance to displace the verdict of the jury.
The CCRC referred the conviction in March 2003.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in October 2005.
