Mr EE
Mr EE was tried for rape in September 2009 at Wolverhampton Combined Court. He pleaded not guilty but was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of nine years and three months.
Mr EE sought to appeal against his conviction in 2009 but his appeal was dismissed. He applied to the CCRC for a review of his conviction in October 2010.
During review, the CCRC uncovered new material which impacted on the credibility of the complainant and undermined the prosecution’s case at trial. This material had not been disclosed to the defence.
The CCRC concluded that there was a real possibility that the Court of Appeal would consider that the material undermined the safety of Mr EE’s conviction.
The CCRC referred the conviction in November 2013.
The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in May 2015.
