Mr DW
Mr DW was convicted in April 2009 at Canterbury Crown Court of indecent assault. He was sentenced to thirteen years’ imprisonment.
Mr DW’s appeal against conviction on four counts was heard in May 2010. These convictions were quashed, thereby reducing the total sentence to ten years’ imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of Mr DW’s case in August 2010.
Following review, the CCRC decided to refer Mr DW’s remaining convictions to the Court of Appeal on the basis that there was a real possibility the Court would find them unsafe as a result of the trial judge’s inadequate directions to the jury regarding some of the evidence presented at trial.
The CCRC referred the conviction in November 2012.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in July 2013.
