Mr DL

Published:

Mr DL was convicted in January 2010 of attempted rape and indecent assault. Mr DL received a sentence of life imprisonment with a notional sentence of 15 years for attempted rape and two years concurrent for indecent assault.

The CCRC received an application for review of Mr DL’s sentence in February 2011.

Following review, the CCRC concluded that the sentence imposed on Mr DL for attempted rape had been unlawful because it was in excess of the maximum penalty for the offence at the time the offence was committed.

The CCRC referred the sentence in July 2011.

The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence in November 2011.
