Mr DK
Mr DK was convicted in December 1994 of buggery, indecent assault and indecency with a child. Mr DK received a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in March 2008.
During review, the CCRC obtained fresh medical evidence indicating that the prosecution’s medical expert at trial had retracted salient features of their evidence and conclusions.
In addition, since the time of the trial there had been significant developments in medical research concerning physical signs of sexual abuse. These developments were pertinent to Mr DK’s case.
The CCRC referred the conviction in July 2011.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in June 2012.
