Mr DH

Published:

Mr DH was convicted in August 2006 of rape and received a sentence of life imprisonment with a specified minimum term of seven years. Mr DH was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in March 2007.

Following review, the CCRC concluded that potentially highly relevant material had not been before the jury at Mr DH’s trial or had not been properly brought to their attention.

In addition, the CCRC obtained fresh evidence that provided powerful support to the defence’s case at trial and which significantly undermined the credibility of both the complainant and a key prosecution witness.

The CCRC referred the conviction in March 2011.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in September 2011.
