Mr DF

Mr DF was convicted in July 1987 of indecent assault and received a sentence of four years’ imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in January 2008.

At trial, the case had centred on medical evidence supporting the prosecution’s allegation that Mr DF had sexually abused his daughter.

During review, the CCRC obtained new medical evidence. This material gave support to Mr DF’s own explanation of how injuries found on his daughter had occurred.

The new evidence also gave rise to arguments which the defence could have utilised at trial to explore discrepancies in the evidence of the prosecution’s medical experts.

The CCRC referred the conviction in March 2011.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in June 2011.
