Millen, Anthony
Anthony Millen was convicted in August 1993 of being knowingly concerned in the illegal importation of cannabis. Mr Millen received a sentence of eight years’ imprisonment.
The CCRC inherited an application for review of the conviction from the Home Office in March 1997.
The prosecution’s case against Mr Millen had been based on the claim that another man had been used by Mr Millen as an innocent agent to bring drugs into the UK.
Following investigation, the CCRC found that HM Customs & Excise had failed to disclose evidence which, if disclosed at trial, could have prompted the conclusion that this man had in fact used Mr Millen as the innocent agent.
The CCRC referred the conviction in October 1998.
The Court of appeal quashed the conviction in April 2001.
