Lane, Gerard

Published:

Gerard Lane was convicted in September 1998 of kidnapping and blackmail. Mr Lane received a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in November 2007.

During review, the CCRC obtained new sensitive and confidential evidence. This evidence had not been disclosed to the defence or court at trial or appeal.

The CCRC concluded that this new material raised a real possibility the Court of Appeal would quash Mr Lane’s conviction.

The CCRC referred the conviction in December 2010.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in June 2011.
