Jenkinson, Amanda

Published:

Amanda Jenkinson was convicted in November 1996 of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and received a sentence of five years’ imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in August 1999.

In this case, patients at a hospital had been subjected to injury because of interference with the controls of a ventilation machine.

At trial, the case against Ms Jenkinson rested substantially on expert evidence that examination of the controls had shown that they had been tampered with at times when Ms Jenkinson had been on shift.

During review, the CCRC obtained fresh expert evidence indicating that the trial expert’s evidence had been fundamentally flawed, inaccurate and misleading. The trial expert accepted these findings.

The CCRC referred the conviction in July 2004.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in November 2005.
