Hodgson, Robert

Published:

Robert Hodgson was convicted in February 1982 of murder and received a sentence of life imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in February 2009.

As part of a re-investigation into this case, fresh DNA swabs were taken from the victim (who had also been raped).

This swab was compared with a full DNA profile obtained from Mr Hodgson and it was determined that the two profiles could not have come from the same person.

The Crown Prosecution Service indicated that it would not oppose an appeal.

The CCRC referred the conviction in March 2009.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in March 2009.
