Hall, Philip
Philip Hall was convicted in June 1998 of actual bodily harm and received a sentence of 21 months’ imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in September 1999.
Mr Hall had been convicted of inflicting actual bodily harm in the course of an altercation between two groups of young men in the car park of a public house.
During review, the CCRC considered that there was significant evidence to support the case that one of Mr Hall’s associates had in fact committed the assault.
This defence had not been pursued at trial by Mr Hall’s defence solicitors or counsel.
The CCRC referred the conviction on this basis in March 2002.
The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in December 2003.
