Gray, Paul

Paul Gray was convicted in June 1995 of attempted robbery and possession of a firearm with intent. Mr Gray received a sentence of nine years’ imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in May 2001.

During review, the CCRC obtained new identification evidence that raised the possibility of the involvement of another person in the attempted robbery.

The CCRC considered that this other individual, who could be forensically linked to the crime, may have been mistaken for Mr Gray.

In addition, the CCRC concluded that there was confidential undisclosed intelligence information, protected by claims of Public Interest Immunity, which might have promoted the case that another individual had been responsible for the robbery.

The CCRC referred the conviction in November 2005.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in March 2007.
