Giles, Jason
Jason Giles was convicted in September 2003 of producing a Class A drug and possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply (cocaine). Mr Giles received a sentence of six years’ imprisonment and a confiscation order for £2,377.74.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in May 2006.
Mr Giles was convicted primarily on the evidence of a witness who was also a co-defendant in the case.
Following review, the CCRC concluded that the there had been a failure to disclose to the defence significant intelligence held on this witness.
Although the police had properly disclosed this intelligence to the CPS and the CPS had recognised its significance, in error it had failed to disclose the material when the witness agreed to give evidence.
The CCRC referred the conviction in October 2008.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in May 2009.
