Doubtfire, Robert

Published:

Robert Doubtfire was convicted in February 1994 of being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of a Class A drug (MDMA) and being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug (amphetamine sulphate).

Mr Doubtfire received a sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment, reduced to 20 years on appeal.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in April 1997.

Following investigation, the CCRC concluded that there had been material non-disclosure of highly sensitive information to the defence which, if it had been disclosed, may have led the jury to reach a different verdict.

The CCRC referred the conviction in July 2000.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in December 2000.
