Brannan, John
John Brannan was convicted in February 1992 of murder and received a sentence of life imprisonment.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in July 1997.
A major issue at trial had been whether or not the victim had been armed with a gun which he had used to threaten Mr Brannan’s co-defendant.
During review, the CCRC obtained new evidence indicating that the police had information showing that the victim had possessed a gun. This had not been disclosed to Mr Brannan’s defence team.
The CCRC referred the conviction in October 1999.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in February 2002.
