Anthony, Donna

Published:

Donna Anthony was convicted on 17 November 1998 at Bristol Crown Court of the murder of her two children Jordan and Michael in February 1996 and March 1997 respectively. She was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Ms Anthony appealed against the convictions in June 2000. The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal. Mrs Anthony applied to the CCRC on 24 September 2003.

Following review, the CCRC concluded that an expert witness at trial had provided misleading evidence as to the statistical improbability of multiple Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) deaths in one family.

The medical evidence at trial was further undermined by new expert medical opinions considered by the CCRC.

The CCRC referred the conviction in February 2005.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in April 2005.
