Allan, Richard

Published:

Richard Allan was convicted in February 1998 of murder and conspiracy to rob. Mr Allan received a sentence of life imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in February 1999.

Following review, the CCRC concluded that at trial the judge had misdirected – or inadequately directed – the jury on several occasions, particularly regarding making “adverse inferences” from facts on which Mr Allan relied but which he had failed to mention in interview.

The CCRC referred the conviction in August 2002.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in May 2004.
