Kaveh, Amin

Published:

Amin Kaveh was convicted in February 2016 of conspiracy to supply mephedrone and supply of mephedrone. Mr Kaveh received a sentence of ten years’ imprisonment.

The CCRC received an application for review of Mr Kaveh’s sentence in August 2018.

During review, the CCRC considered new evidence that had not been disclosed at trial which raised a real possibility the Court of Appeal would find the sentence imposed on Mr Kaveh to be manifestly excessive.

This evidence indicated that Mr Kaveh had not been, as was argued at trial, part of a five-year conspiracy with his co-accused. The CCRC concluded that had this evidence been presented at trial Mr Kaveh may not have received the same sentence.

The CCRC referred the sentence in November 2019.

The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence in September 2021.
