Mr FL
Mr FL was convicted in January 2010 of sexual assault and received a sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years and a requirement to carry out unpaid work for 75 hours.
The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in March 2016.
During review, the CCRC uncovered material which impacted the reliability of the evidence given by one of the complainants at trial and which undermined the prosecution’s case in relation to both complainants.
The CCRC concluded that this new material gave rise to a real possibility that Ms FL’s convictions would not be upheld.
The CCRC referred the conviction in May 2016.
The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in November 2016.
