Hall, Simon

Published:

Simon Hall was convicted in February 2003 of murder and received a sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years.

The CCRC received an application for review of the conviction in May 2005.

Following review, the CCRC concluded that fresh expert evidence indicated that clothing fibre evidence which had been relied on at trial and appeal may have been misinterpreted and/or misrepresented.

In particular, the new evidence highlighted differences between fibres that had been found at the crime scene and those found at Mr Hall’s address.

In addition, the prosecution had presented misleading statistical evidence at trial.

The CCRC referred the conviction in August 2009.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in January 2011.
