Haskayne, Trevor

Published:

Trevor Haskayne was convicted in December 1995 of being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of a Class A controlled drug (MDMA) and being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of a Class B controlled drug (amphetamine).

Mr Haskayne was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.

Following review, the CCRC concluded that there had been a failure by the prosecution in respect of its disclosure obligations.

The CCRC considered that this failure meant that the trial judge was not given access to material that might have assisted Mr Haskayne’s defence.

The CCRC referred the conviction in July 2006.

The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction in October 2007.
