Brown, Darren
Darren Brown was convicted in January 2003 of burglary and received a sentence of four years’ imprisonment, consecutive to a return to custody for 16 months and 24 days under Section 116 of the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000.
The CCRC received an application for review of the sentence in April 2003.
Mr Brown had entered a guilty plea to a charge of burglary and was remanded in custody for 174 days before sentencing.
At the time of his arrest for this offence, Mr Brown was out on licence from a sentence totalling 4 years and 9 months’ imprisonment for burglary.
The CCRC referred the sentence in September 2003 on the grounds that the sentencing court had failed to credit Mr Brown for time served after he was administratively recalled to prison due to breach of his licence.
The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence in February 2004.
