Leal, Manoj
Manoj Leal was convicted in July 1999 of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of cannabis resin with intent to supply, and possession of cocaine with intent to supply.
Mr Leal received a sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment (reduced to nine years on appeal) and a confiscation order of £1,908,605.23 with four years’ imprisonment in default.
The CCRC received an application for review of the confiscation order in July 2002.
Following review, the CCRC concluded that the confiscation order made against Mr Leal had been outside of the court’s jurisdiction.
It followed that there was a real possibility that it would not be upheld were it referred to the Court of Appeal.
The CCRC referred the confiscation order in November 2002.
