Commission refers the rape conviction of Carl Butler to the Court of Appeal

The Criminal Cases Review Commission has referred the rape conviction of Carl Butler to the Court of Appeal.

Mr Butler pleaded not guilty but was convicted of rape at Sheffield Crown Court in May 1998 and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of six years.

The following year Mr Butler sought to appeal against his conviction but the Court refused leave to appeal. In 2011 Mr Butler applied to the Commission for a review of his conviction.
